Twitter record 396 million tweets for #Loksabhaelections2019

Twitter said on Thursday it listed 396 million discussions for Lok Sabha elections involving January 1 to May 23 and that the number of discussions grew 600 per cent in contrast to the general elections of 2014.

Prime minister Narendra Modi emerged as the most mentioned political character throughout elections, while @BJP4India was the most cited political party on Twitter, the company said in a statement.

Twitter said as counting was concluding, Modi’s tweet on #VijaiBharat obtained hundreds of thousands of answers, retweets and likes at the span of a couple of minutes, which makes it the very retweeted tweet of this election.3.2 million Tweets were detected on the counting day, with 1/3rd of those Tweets being recorded between 3 and 4 pm, around the same time when prime minister Modi Tweeted.

During the six months of the election from 11th April till 19th May, general safety appeared as the most talked about election-related topic on Twitter, followed by faith, jobs and employment, agriculture, and ultimately demonetisation.

The #mainbhichowkidar effort, Nyay scheme, the first stage of polling and counting day were among the subjects which generated the most number of discussions.

National Democratic Alliance members took 53% of the mentions on Twitter in the overall election discussions while the @INCIndia manage along with addresses of different members of the United Progressive Alliance received 37% of the cites.
