Bangkok – Catriona Gray of the Philippines was named Miss Universe 2018 in a competition held in Bangkok on Monday,making the best participants of 93 other countries and pleased their home country.

Gray stepped out of South Africa’s first runner-up Tamarine Green and Stephanie Gutierrez, third place in Venezuela. She succeeds Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters of South Africa.
In the Philippines, Pageant is a popular attraction, and Gray’s countrymen got wildly excited and jumped for happiness when the winner was declared.Celebrations were especially buoyant in Oas town in the northeastern province of Albay, from which Gray’s Filipina mother hails.
The office of the Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte was quick to congratulate the winner. Gray is the fourth Miss Universe from Philippine.

An early round of questioning touched on the issue of drugs, where Duterte’s aggressive ‘war on drugs’ has taken lives of thousands of people, many of whom were in what critics charge were extrajudicial executions.
Duterte’s raised even more controversy when he recently joked that he smoked marijuana to deal with the busy schedules of meetings with other Asian leaders at the regional summit.
When asked what she thinks about making marijuana legal, Gray said:
“I’m for it being used for medical use, but not for recreational use, Â Because I think if people will argue, then what about alcohol and cigarettes? Everything is good but in moderation.”
