A man has been shot dead by police after reportedly stabbing multiple people in a shopping centre rampage in north-west Western Australia.
Police were called to the South Hedland Square Shopping Centre just before 10am on Friday after witnesses reported seeing a man brandishing a knife.
Five people were injured during the rampage and were being treated for stab wounds at Hedland Health Campus, police said.
The public are being asked to avoid the South Hedland Square shopping Centre on Throssell Road due to a police incident.
Police responded to the shopping centre just before 10am to reports of an armed offender.
Officers have discharged a firearm.

Two people are in a serious but stable condition and three are in a stable condition.Police said “officers discharged a firearm” in the incident.
“Police can confirm that a male has died as a result of the incident at the South Hedland Square Shopping Centre,” WA Police said.

Police will investigate the circumstances surrounding how these people received the injuries.As per normal protocols, Major Crime Division and Professional Standards Division will investigate the circumstances surrounding the police shooting.There is no ongoing concern regarding public safety in South Hedland.
