Case registered against 2 professors for harassing a student in IIT Roorkee.

Uttarakhand: Case registered against 2 professors for allegedly mentally and sexually harassing a student in IIT Roorkee. Ridhim Aggarwal, SSP, says “Prima facie certain facts have been found to be true while investigation on the others is underway. A case has been registered.”

Two research students of IIT-Roorkee and one foreign scholar have accused at least five professors of the Sexual Harassment Institute, the police said on Wednesday.
Haridwar SSP Riddim Agrawal said that in the last 10 days, the women had contacted Haridwar police.

SSP said that two complaints were received on email and phone, while a researcher had filed a formal complaint with the police last week.

Foreign scholar has alleged that in 2015, professors had sexually harassed him when he visited the institute to give a lecture.

“Since we do not have the number of foreign scholars, we have sent an email to them so that they provide more information to be able to investigate this matter. Another complainant who, through a telephone message last Sunday, Contacted, the SSP said, “So far file a formal complaint.”

However, one of the researchers who filed a formal complaint with the police last week told the media that their supervisor at the institute had sexually and mentally disturbed him.

He said that when he contacted the top officials of the institute, he changed the observer with only one other professor, who alleged that there was a reputation for disturbing the women.

“Apart from using caste slurs against me, my supervisor has sexually and mentally disturbed me in the last two years. I complained to the director and Dean but they sent it to the women’s cell.

The researcher told reporters, “The head of the lady cell said that the supervisor will change but no action can be taken against them.”

The SSP said that a three-member SIT has been formed to investigate the matter.

A statement of IIT-Roorkee on foreign scholar has dismissed allegations of sexual harassment against professors, in an investigation of the Internal Complaints Committee, it was concluded that there is no gender based discrimination and harassment in the complaint.
On the complaint filed by a research scholar of the institute, it was said that the case is being looked into.
